Evan L. Thompson, from the University of South Carolina, was elected the 46th National President of Kappa Kappa Psi at the 49th Biennial Convention in Orlando, Florida. Evan previously served the Fraternity as National Vice President for Colonization & Membership (2015-2017), Southeast District Governor (2012-2015), and National Chapter Field Representative (2010-2012).As National Vice President for Colonization and Membership, Evan was responsible for advancing the purposes of the fraternity through administering the colonization and membership development initiatives. Evan led a complete overhaul of the colonization process creating a more efficient and meaningful process focused on member development, chapter operations, and officer training. He also led efforts to document the fraternity’s discipline procedures which resulted in an Investigation Protocol now available for all members. Evan served as a member of the Curriculum Development Committee which engaged in developing The National Membership Education Program: The Road to Wisdom. Eight new chapters were installed during the biennium and member numbers reached 6,500 active members.Evan graduated from the University of South Carolina with a Bachelor’s of Music Degree cum laude with emphasis in Instrumental Music Education in 2009. He graduated from Western Governors University with a Master’s of Science Degree in Educational Leadership in 2016. Professionally, Evan is a Music Teacher in Lexington, South Carolina and an Instructor in the Department of Dance, Music & Theatre at Coker College in Hartsville, SC. His experience also includes five years of successful teaching as Band & Orchestra Director at Chestnut Oaks Middle School in Sumter, South Carolina.Evan is a member of the Sumter Community Concert Band and the Palmetto Concert Band. Professional affiliations include the National Association for Music Education, South Carolina Band Directors Association, and South Carolina Music Educators Association. He is a Life Member of Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, and the University of South Carolina Alumni Association.
